The Early Days

My name is Sean Flannery. I am a passionate strength training advocate and coach. Born in Sligo, I grew up in Longford in the midlands of Ireland. Being fit and active has always come very naturally to me.

My childhood days consisted of playing different sports and being outside the majority of the time. Soccer was my passion growing up and I spent countless hours outside kicking a football. This developed a discipline and gave me a focus around that time as outside football I had no other real outlets. Football just like fitness and coaching has given me a since of purpose and identity.

Just after finishing college I found myself out of work for a period of time and decided to look at other alternatives. With this free time, I decided to start a fitness blog and from there lead me to my first few clients that I took for free in the middle of a council pitch. Fast forward a couple of years, my then idea is now my full time job that serves clients locally and nationally.

‘The Club’

Back when I was 17, I started learning the fundamentals of strength training from my grandad in his home gym, which is located in his back garden in Sligo.

This kind of happened by chance as I was down there completing a PLC course at the time which gave me a lot of free time in the evenings. There was no heating and it was freezing the majority of the time but it didn’t put us off and gave me the chance to spend some quality time with him learning a new skill.

My grandad was and still is a massive inspiration to me, as he was the first person in Sligo to open a bodybuilding gym in the 1970s.
